In 1917 Charles Fowler Sr. established C.A. Fowler & Company, the
predecessor firm of Fowler Bauld & Mitchell Ltd. The firm became
well known and widely respected. It was responsible for many
landmark buildings throughout the Maritime Provinces.
Fowler Bauld & Mitchell Ltd. was built on this solid foundation.
The firm has evolved over the years and has changed considerably.
Today’s practice is a professional corporation owned by five shareholders,
all of whom are active in the practice; a firm which uses up-to-date computer
technology and an old-fashioned work ethic to produce superior designs that
are attractive, serviceable and economical. One thing has not changed
over the years though - we are still an industry leader.
A few of our better known buildings are:
♦ the Metro Centre in Halifax,
♦ the Dartmouth General Hospital
in Dartmouth,
♦ the Nova Scotia Museum of Industry
in Stellarton,
♦ the Sheraton Hotel in Fredericton,
and
♦ the Mercantile Centre in Saint
John
The size of our staff varies between ten and sixteen people depending
on our workload and deadlines. Most of our employees are fully qualified
architects with many years of experience. We design buildings of
all types and sizes. We routinely produce projects in the $15-20
million cost range and we have done much larger jobs on occasion.
Most of our projects are new buildings, renovations or expansion projects.
However, a significant and growing part of the practice is in non-traditional
areas such as historic conservation, functional programming, facility management
and building science. We are licensed to practice in Nova Scotia,
New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island and are eligible to practice in many
other jurisdictions.
Fowler Bauld & Mitchell is known for high quality design. We
have been honoured four times by the Nova Scotia Lieutenant Governor’s
Design Award Program as well as the Nova Scotia Home Awards and the Nova
Scotia Association of Architects Design Awards. The Architects Association
of New Brunswick displayed our work in a recent exhibition entitled Seventy-five
Years of Architecture in New Brunswick and we have been published in Canadian
Architect magazine and Architecture, the professional journal of the American
Institute of Architects.
Fowler Bauld & Mitchell produces balanced projects that are attractive,
functionally efficient, serviceable and economical to construct and operate.
The results speak for themselves. Over seventy-five percent of our
projects are for repeat clients. This is the best possible testament
to the quality of our work.
